The Ballina railway station opened on 19 May 1873 and is operated by Iarnród Éireann. The branch runs from Manulla Junction on the Dublin Heuston and connects with the Westport railway line, Ballina railway station serves the town of Ballina in County Mayo, Ireland. It is a single platform station with runround loop.

The Ballina Stephenites Club was founded on the last Saturday of August 1886 by James Wallace Melvin. The first meeting was held in "Barney's Boreen" at the top of Convent Hill. The first President of the Club was Tom Courell with "Cappy" Fitzgerald as Secretary and Michael Connolly as Treasurer.Ballina Stephenites were affiliated to the Mayo County Board a short time later and played their first "official" fixture in Jones' Field in Ardnaree against Commercials Junior.

  Ballina Rugby Club was formed in 1928. It was a start of an era, the birth of a club that was to shed lustre on Connacht, and Irish Rugby. Ballina was proposed for membership at the February meeting of the Connacht Branch in 1928.    

   Ballina Town F.C. is a football club catering for the Ballina area in County Mayo, Republic of Ireland. The club was founded 8 December 1961 in Geraghty's public house, Ballina. Originally, the name of the club was to be St Patrick's F.C. but six months later it was changed to 'Ballina Town F.C.'
